Computer Training and Employment Program

The Self Help Institute provides instruction and training in the use of personal computers as well as training to develop basic office skills. These services are provided to low-income individuals who have a desire to learn about computers or has an interest in entering the workforce in a computer related field. Skills learned through the program will facilitate advancement or immediate entry into the job market.

Classroom training is provided in data entry, creating and updating files, computer terminology, word processing and professional development training. Upon completion of the training program, participants receive certificates of completion in the area of concentration during a graduation ceremony. Assistance with job placement is provided upon completion of the program.

Computer Training Program

 

The Self Help Division offers FREE Computer Training classes to begin August 16, 2010 at five (5) Neighborhood Service Centers. The classes are open to the public to individuals who are interested in advancing in the workplace and improving their employability skill set levels.

The training includes the introduction to PC systems, hardware/software and operating systems. Other areas to be covered include: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Individuals interested in learning how to build, repair, maintain and diagnose computers, please apply at the Accion Center ONLY. On site Job Developers will work with trainees to help enhance employability skills and provide job placement referrals.

The program requirements 

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, type at least 25 words a minute, should have knowledge of electronics and computers. Household income should not exceed 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
