APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM SITES NOW BEING ACCEPTED

Kids EatingMiami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is currently seeking program sites for the County's 2012 summer Food Service Program. Beginning Monday, February 13, 2012 through Monday, April 30, 2012, applications will be accepted for consideration as a Summer Food Service Program site. The Summer Food Service Program will operate from Monday, June 11, 2012 through Friday, August 10, 2012.

CAA and DHS are being consolidated

Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez recently announced his plan to reduce the number of County departments.

“The Community Action and Human Services Department combines the Community Action Agency and the Department of Human Services. The combination of these departments will streamline the delivery of resources to targeted communities including children, seniors and families through advocacy, education and service delivery."

Make Your Home Weather Wise!

 

Miami-Dade's Weatherization Assistance Program is currently accepting applications from qualified homeowners who may be eligible to receive free weatherization services to make their homes more energy efficient and reduce energy costs.

Homeowners may receive home energy upgrades that include repair or replacement of windows, doors, low flow fixtures, replacement of ceiling insulation, appliances, repair or replacement of air-conditioning units, and water heaters among other services. Participation in the program is based on household income meeting established US Poverty Guidelines, as well as, an energy home audit.  Priority is given to families with children, the elderly and the disabled.

Deadline for submitting applications is September 2, 2011. Applications submitted after that date will not be eligible for the program.

First-Time Home Buyers Program

Several Miami-Dade County departments are working together to provide first-time homebuyers an opportunity to become homeowners.

The Southern Anchor Home Buyers Program provides a bridge to home ownership for working families. Eligible families will reside in a secured gated rental community of townhomes located at 12300 S.W. 152nd Street, Miami, Florida 33177.

Utility Assistance Available

 

Miami-Dade County is currently assisting individuals and families with paying their utility bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program assists individuals with paying their utility bills (gas and electric), individuals may qualify to recieve up to $300.00 in assistance.


Applications are now being accepted at Neighborhood Service Centers. For additional information on LIHEAP and other programs available through the County, contact us at 786-469-4600 or by dialing 311 from any phone.
