The Greater Miami Service Corps (GMSC) is a youth service organization that operates under the auspice of the Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) and provides out-of-school young people with the resources and services necessary to transition to independence and self-sufficiency. Program emphasis is placed on preparing young people to enter the workforce through education, work experience, internship, job placement and post-program follow-up to placement retention.
GMSC's mission is to "enhance the employability and self-esteem of young adults ages 18-23, through public/private ventures which provide work projects and education that result in tangible community improvements and a skilled workforce." Services are provided to out-of-school who are either unemployed or underemployed; a high school graduate or dropout; basic skills deficient; single parents; non-custodial parents or youth with prior criminal history. GMSC has an open enrollment policy. Interested youth must complete an intake application.
GMSC utilizes a comprehensive research validated service strategy that promotes education enhancement, development of a strong work ethic, technical job skills, the ability to work in teams and independently, improved life and behavioral skills, job placement assistance and employment retention. Youth enrolled in GMSC receive a bi-weekly stipend and are eligible for scholarships and post-program follow-up assistance. GMSC proudly boasts the success of hundreds of young people, some who hold Master, Bachelor and Associate Degrees, who are teachers, architects, customer service representatives, journeymen, laborers, account clerks, supervisors and the list goes on and on as demonstrated by some of our success stories.
