    Lobbying Overview

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners adopted legislation, which requires persons or entities employed or retained by a principal seeking to influence official county action, to register as a lobbyist with the Clerk of the Board.

The legislation also requires persons or entities that employ a lobbyist to file an activity authorization form, and principals and lobbyist to file a joint contingency fee affidavit.  Registered Lobbyists are required to file a lobbyist expenditure report with the Clerk of the Board detailing lobbying expenses he or she incurred.

The Board of County Commissioners, adopted Ordinance 10 - 3 and Ordinance 10-34 relating to lobbyist registration fees, and Ordinance 10 - 4 requiring principals and lobbyist to file a joint affidavit regarding contingency fees.

The lobbyist ordinance specifies penalties for those who do not register or file timely reports by a Lobbyist.  A Notice of Withdrawal must be submitted to the Clerk of the Board's office upon conclusion of his or her representation of each principal.
