Placement of Bachelor and/or Master Level Students

Students in the mental health field can request placement at Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services to fulfill the clinical experience requirements of their universities to obtain their masters or bachelor’s degrees. We provide a variety of services to a diverse population under four major bureaus: Child Development Services; Elderly, Disabled, and Veteran’s Services; Rehabilitative Services; and Targeted Services.

See more information on the Internship Program.

The application process is as follows:

  • All requests for placement will be referred to the Training Director at least 2 months prior to the beginning of the semester.
  • The Training Director will present all placement requests to the Training Committee to determine if the applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
  • Upon meeting the minimum qualifications, the applications will be forwarded to all interested bureaus for interviewing. However, placement is pending Bureau Chief/Representative approval.
  • The Bureau Chief and/or Representative will meet with the prospective intern applicant and conduct an informal interview with him/her to confirm that the applicant have the desired skills/qualifications that are of value to the Department/Bureau and to ensure that the Department/Bureau can provide the experiences that the intern is seeking.  The interview will also include, but will not be limited to, a review of the goals of the potential assignments; the qualifications and skills of the existing staff; the nature of the tasks to be performed; the populations that will be served; the facility; the hours of service; and any other pertinent information that is required to insure a successful match.
  • Each Bureau Chief/Representative upon completing the above requirements will present their recommendation to the Training Committee. In case there is not a good fit between the specific Bureau/Unit the intern applicant will be referred back to the Training Committee, who will determine suitability for another Bureau/Unit.
  • Upon preliminary selection the referring educational institution will be contacted for execution of Miami-Dade County Affiliation Agreement prior to commencement of placement.

Upon acceptance of the applicant to the Internship Program

  • The Intern will be required to provide a picture identification, confirmation of their current address and a letter or other documented forms of introduction/recommendation from the referral source, detailing their qualifications for the job and confirmation of background screening.
  • Each Bureau/Unit Supervisor will develop the placement responsibilities in that particular Unit. This document will be signed and dated by the Intern and the Supervisor.
  • There will be a Policies and Procedures Manual at each site for the Interns to review. This Manual will be reviewed at least once a year to ensure that it is consistent with the needs and demands of the program.
  • All Interns will be issued a temporary County ID and must wear them to all assignments.
  • Documentation of Intern and Supervision Form will be completed weekly and signed by the Intern and the task supervisor.
