(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- County Commissioner Dennis Moss, Chairman of the County Commission's new Transportation Committee, has submitted to County Commission Chairperson Barbara Carey-Shuler his two-year plan for the committee, which has jurisdiction over the County's Aviation, Consumer Services, Office of Public Transportation Management, Seaport and Miami-Dade Transit departments.
Under new County Commission rules of procedure effective on January 1, 2003, agenda items submitted for Board consideration are first routed to commission committees for approval before being placed on the Board's agenda.
After meeting with each department director, Commissioner Moss formulated goals and objectives for each department to achieve in the next two years. Some of the goals included in the Commissioner's plan are: Determine "once and for all" the governance structure of Miami International Airport and expedite the airport's $4 billion Capital Improvement Plan; keep the Seaport competitive in the global marketplace by negotiating a new terminal operation agreement and advance the $170 million infrastructure program; implement the short-term goals of the People's Transportation Plan, beginning with a start on construction of the North Corridor and prioritization of the other corridors; and for the Consumer Service Department, complete implementation of the limousine ordinance and continue the transition to an owner-operator Taxi Cab System.
Commissioner Moss' vision statement for the Transportation Committee is "to create a world-class transportation system built on the principles of integrity, transparency, opportunity, efficiency, reliability, accountability, security and courtesy."
"I have chosen this vision statement because in my opinion it best describes what we are trying to accomplish in this county," said Commissioner Moss. "We want a world-class transportation system because we want to become a world-class county that will make every resident in this community proud. In order to accomplish these goals, we need to build upon these eight basic principles."
