Miami-Dade County requests proposals for developing public housing properties

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade County, through the Miami-Dade Public Housing Agency (MDPHA), is seeking proposals from qualified entities for development opportunities at existing public housing developments in Miami-Dade County and other vacant land managed by MDPHA. The Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks to identify qualified developers with the capacity to maximize and expedite the development potential of over 100 existing public housing sites, over 9,000 units, to improve and increase the supply of quality affordable housing for the residents of Miami-Dade County.

"As we enter a new age in public housing development, this RFP will position Miami-Dade County to better meet the needs of those in desperate need of affordable housing.  As this initiative evolves, it will ensure one-for-one replacement of existing public housing units, the building of new affordable housing on under-developed land, and the creation of jobs during rehabilitation and construction," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.

The County seeks to improve its older units with new designs that resemble market-rate units - regardless of whether these are public housing, affordable or market rate units - and incorporate creative and sustainable design solutions.

A pre-proposal conference will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 701 NW 1st Court, 2nd floor conference room, Miami, FL  33136.  Proposals are due no later than Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
