    Timeline for Setting Federal and State Legislative Priorities

    County departments and agencies interested in making a state or federal legislative request or a federal appropriations request are asked to begin developing their priorites each June in order to allow sufficient time for review before a final package is adopted and ready for the beginning of the State legislative session, which normally begins the following March.

    Submit your legislative or appropriations request to the designated federal or state coordinator.

    Timeline for 2008-2009 State and Federal Legislative Packages
    July 2008 County Manager instructs County departments to develop legislative priorities and appropriations requests, in cooperation with Office of Intergovernmental Affairs (OIA).
    August 11, 2008 County departments submit their legislative and appropriations requests to OIA.
    August-September 2008 County departments meet with OIA to discuss their legislative priorities and appropriations requests (tentative date).
    September 2008 BCC approves the FY 2008-09 County Budget. Congress ends its Federal Appropriations Cycle (tentative date).
    October-December 2008 OIA meets with BCC members to discuss their legislative interests and the preliminary 2009 Agenda.
    October-December 2008 OIA presents the preliminary 2009 State and Federal legislative packages to the BCC for adoption.
    OIA meets with State and Federal legislative delegations to discuss their legislative interests.
    November-December 2008 BCC adopts the final 2008 legislative packages.
    OIA delivers the 2008 legislative packages to our State and Federal legislative delegations.
    December 2008 Florida Legislature releases CBIR forms for 2009 appropriations requests.
    OIA meets with State and Federal legislative delegations to file priority bills and appropriations requests.
    January 2009 OIA continues to meet with State and Federal legislative delegations to file priority bills and appropriations requests.
    February 2009 BCC and OIA refine the legislative plan through discussions with State and Federal legislative delegations.
    OIA completes Federal forms for appropriation requests.
    March 2009 Florida Legislature begins its 60 day legislative session.
    May 2009 Florida Legislature ends its 60 day legislative session.
    OIA reviews the accomplishments of priority bills and CBIRs contained in the 2008 package.
    June 2009 OIA prepares an End of Session Report and performance review of contract lobbyists.
    June/July 2009 OIA starts the process over for 2010.
