Stop Heart Disease
The Florida Heart Research Institute (FHRI) has joined forces with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and six local Miami-Dade County Fire Departments to help save lives from sudden cardiac arrest in a public awareness campaign that launches February 6th in conjunction with Stop Heart Disease Week issued by proclamation from Governor Rick Scott in an effort to encourage Floridians to become more proactive in the fight against sudden cardiac arrest and heart disease.
Fire Rescue warms holiday spirits of needy kids As part of their Toys for Kids drive, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is asking us to respond to their call for help by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to your nearest Miami-Dade Fire Rescue station now through Dec. 21. Toys will be distributed to disadvantaged children identified through churches and community centers, as well as by firefighters who respond to emergencies.
MDFR hosts turkey giveaway for disadvantaged Sweetwater residents
Firefighters from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) assigned to the Sweetwater and Fontainebleau fire stations hosted a turkey giveaway on Sunday, November 20, 2011. The event took place at the Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center.
On September 7, 2011, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) held a commemoration honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, by unveiling a piece of a steel beam from the World Trade Center (WTC) collapse. The piece of steel and pictures of MDFR employees working at the WTC after the attack will remain on display in the front lobby of MDFR Headquarters located at 9300 NW 41 Street.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez named long-time public servant and firefighter William "Shorty" Bryson to the position of Fire Chief effective Thursday, August 18, 2011. Chief Bryson is eminently qualified for the position, having served the City of Miami Fire Department for thirty-five years.
Interim Chief Karls Paul-Noel Announces his Retirement
On Tuesday, August 16, 2011, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Interim Chief Karls Paul-Noel announced he will retire, effective immediately. Karls Paul-Noel, retires after 27 years of proudly serving Miami-Dade County.

On Saturday, July 30, 2011Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) received a call reporting a large snake was under a trailer on a farm. A unit from station 60 was dispatched to the scene where a giant Burmese python was spotted trying to disappear under the trailer.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's ALS Team Extends Winning Streak
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's (MDFR) Advanced Life Support (ALS) Team came in first place at the 2011 Bill Shearer International ALS/BLS Competition.
This year's scenario featured mass casualty incidents, critical airway emergencies, toxic syndromes, trauma, and pediatric emergencies.The competition was held on July 8, as a part of the ClinCon 2011 Conference in Orlando, FL.

MDFR's Venon One Response Team Featured on a New Animal Planet Series "Swamp Wars"
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's (MDFR) "Venom One" response team encounter dangerous creatures like venomous vipers, ravenous gators, terrifying tegu lizards and deadly bees on a daily basis. This June, Animal Planet viewers will get a virtual "ride-along" with the brave "Venom One" team members when the brand-new series "Swamp Wars" premieres on June 12 at 9 p.m.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue conducts Multi-Company Live Fire Training in its new state-of-the-art training facility as members of four companies fight an interactive house fire. The facility features a 2-story residential building, a liquid fuel storage facility prop, a commercial warehouse, a strip mall and a 6-story apartment building/tower each with unique live fire training props.

MDFR Awarded International Accredited Status
The Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), which is part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, has affirmed MDFR as one of the best fire-rescue departments in the world by awarding MDFR its International Accreditation Agency status. MDFR is now the largest fire-rescue department in the Southeast and the second largest in the nation to become accredited by CFAI.
MDFR achieved this superior status only after CFAI confirmed compliance with 256 rigorous performance benchmarks and competencies. This major accomplishment confirms MDFR's commitment to adhere to the highest standards of fire-rescue service.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Training Center is a multi-use, state of the art complex built on 11 acres of existing land directly south of MDFR's headquarters building. The Training Center provides numerous training and development opportunities for MDFR personnel as well as public safety personnel from across the region, the nation, and the globe.
The Training Center's primary focus is to enhance Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's response capabilities and serve to assist other public safety departments in the region. The Training Center is also designed to provide a wide range of courses that deal with both public and private emergency response and preparedness.
MDFR firefighters respond to Miami-Dade County's airports day and night
The Airport Fire Rescue Division provides and coordinates all Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting protection at all Greater Miami-Dade County airports, including Miami International Airport and Opa-Locka Executive Airport. The division also is responsible for medical emergencies, fuel spills, terrorism, hazardous materials, biochemical threats, radiological exposures and natural disasters.
