The Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Program (SNP) started as a grassroots effort by residents concerned with the condition of parks located in Miami-Dade County.
To lead the effort and attract citizen support a broad-based, informal citizens advisory committee, later known as the Safe Neighborhood Parks Trust was formed.
Comprised of about 60 community conscience, influential residents, this community group, working independently of local government, won 67% voter approval to issue up to $200 million in municipal bonds to fund county and municipal capital improvements of parks, beaches, natural areas and recreational facilities; park land acquisitions in Miami-Dade County; and to establish the SNP Citizens' Oversight Committee (SNPCOC) to administer the capital improvement program.
