Americans with Disabilities Act Coordination

The purpose of the Office of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Coordination is to bring Miami-Dade County into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and, at the same time, heighten awareness of disability issues – both within County departments and within the community – in order to help provide persons with disabilities the opportunity to fulfill their greatest potential for independence and achievement.

This American with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990 to protect people with disabilities from discrimination in employment, transportation, public accommodations, telecommunications and other areas on the basis of their disability. Learn more about the federal agencies that regulate and enforce accommodations for the following issues affecting persons with disablilities and how to contact them:

 ADA Coordinators

County ADA Coordinators are reponsible for coordinating their department's ADA grievance process in accordance with Miami-Dade County grievance policy  and promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in all departmental programs and services.

People First Language

 People First Language

People-first language (PFL) is a way of speaking and referring to people with disabilities that respects them as human beings, rather than dehumanizes them.
