The Miami-Dade County Office of ADA Coordination works to bring Miami-Dade County into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and, at the same time, heightens awareness of disability issues, within County departments and the community.
More specifically, the office helps County departments understand the importance of the ADA, their obligations under the Act, the options for meeting those obligations, and how different options will impact people with disabilities.
The Office of ADA Coordination provides training and technical assistance on the ADA, related laws, and disability etiquette/awareness and advises all County departments, municipalities, the Commission on Disability Issues (CODI) and the public. The Office reviews building plans, conducts inspections and provides specialized technical assistance and training to County departments and the community on ADA design requirements.
The Office of ADA Coordination provides staff support to CODI, maintains a network of County department ADA coordinators, and administers and distributes parking citation revenues generated by disabled permit parking violations to municipalities. The Office also administers the ADA program access complaints involving County departments.
Issues regarding County employment, including recruitment, job information, the application process, testing, referral, interviews, and reasonable accommodation are the responsibility of the County's Human Resources Department. Employment discrimination complaints are handled by the Office of Fair Employment Practices.
