Community and District Champions to be recognized at Second Annual Hispanic Advocate of the Year reception

 

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board (HAAB) under the Office of Community Advocacy, will celebrate its Second Annual Hispanic Advocate of the Year reception at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the La Jolla Ballroom, 301 Alcazar Avenue, Coral Gables, FL 33134.

During the reception, HAAB will celebrate and highlight advocates and leaders in Miami-Dade County who work tirelessly for the betterment of Hispanic and minority issues in our community. The winner of the Hispanic Advocate of the Year for 2018 is Osvaldo Soto, the founder of the Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD). Community Champions for 2018 are:

  • Alina Hudak, Deputy Mayor, Miami-Dade County Government
  • Diana Venturini, Director, Fund and Resource Development, Office of Community Engagement, Miami-Dade County Public Schools
  • Aidil Oscariz, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy, Catalyst Miami
  • Patricia Hernandez, Esq., Immigration Attorney, Rotella and Hernandez, LLC

HAAB also will be presenting awards to advocates selected by various County commissioners for their hard work within their commission district. The District Champions are:

  • District 1 Champion - Marlene Arribas, Executive Director, Hispanic Coalition
  • District 3 Champion - Miriam Urra, Executive Director, Allapattah Community Action Agency
  • District 5 Champion - Betty Alonso, President and CEO, ConnectFamilias Inc.
  • District 6 Champion - Rosa E. Kasse, President and Founder, Hispanic Coalition
  • District 9 Champion - Rene Infante, President, Redland Market Village
  • District 13 Champion – Zoe Prieto, President, Children in Action Foundation

The event will raise funds for HAAB’s scholarship program, which is aimed at granting support to minority college students.
