Animal Services Kicks off New Dog Transfer Program

Transfer Program saves pets' lives

Dog Transfer Program

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
The Animal Services Department (ASD) is proud to kick-off a new Dog Transfer Program.  The goal of the program is to save more pets' lives by transferring them to no-kill shelters outside of the area.  With the help of Pawsitive 4 Life, a rescue group that fundraises for the rescue of pets from ASD, ASD hopes to continuously expand the Transfer Program to eventually include the transfer of hundreds of pets per month.

"With up to 300-400 animals at the shelter on any given day, the efforts of rescues and adoptions cannot cover the sheer numbers of animals that the County shelter must take in.  We are thankful to these shelters for their great assistance: North Brevard SPCA, H.A.L.O of Indian River County, Pick Your Paw Rescue of New Jersey, and Common Sense for Animals Shelter of Broadway, New Jersey.  They have all stepped up to take dogs from ASD," said Alex Muñoz, Director, Animal Services Department

Interviews with Volunteer Coordinator and photo opportunities of pets on their way out of the shelter are available at the above dates and times.

Each year, the shelter impounds 36,000 pets.  The goal at Animal Services is to reunite lost pets with their families or find life-long homes for as many animals as possible.
