Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to Officiate the groundbreaking of the new Miami-Dade County Animal Services shelter
(Miami, Fl) - Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa, District 12 Commissioner Jose ''Pepe'' Diaz, and the Board of County Commissioners will host a ceremony to break ground on the new Animal Services Shelter on Friday, August 22, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the future site of the new shelter, 3651 NW 79th Avenue, Doral, Florida 33166.
The new shelter is approximately 70,000 square feet and will provide increased capacity to protect both dogs and cats. The new shelter will feature an adoption center and an adoption center with best practice animal care, quarantine areas to protect animals and prevent the spread of disease, improved clinic facilities to expand spay and neuter capacity for the community and more. Construction of the new Shelter is soon to begin, and will be managed by the County's Internal Services Department, working closely with Animal Services Department staff to ensure the priorities and needs of the animals under its protection are a top priority.
''My administration has made it a top priority to ensure that we all work together to make this new Animal Shelter a reality for our community,'' said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. ''Today, we celebrate the long-awaited groundbreaking as another milestone toward our common goal of a No-Kill community and improving the conditions for all the animals that we are placed in our care.''
