    Miles

My now husband and I were volunteers at Animal Services two years ago.  We had such an amazing experience and fell in love with new animals each week.

I had already had a cat, Annick (a rescue) who was 8 years old, shy, timid, and I was certain we had a 'one cat household'.  However, after several months spent at Animal Services, I felt I had to at least try to bring another cat into our home.  I did my research and found out that bringing in another cat can work and to consider adopting the opposite sex, and a younger cat.  Realizing that the black cats were less likely to get adopted, 2 years ago this month we adopted Miles (named Dixon at the shelter).  This boy has brought more joy to our lives than we could possibly imagine.  He is smart (plays fetch with his toy mice), funny (can open doors and likes to hang out in our liquor cabinet!), loving (cuddling up to us all the time) and very attentive - I swear he knows we saved his life.

The first few weeks weren't easy.  I kept the cats in seperate rooms day and night, so when we swapped rooms they would only smell each others scent.  When it was time, I slowly introduced them.  They didn't fall in love over night, and they still have their 'moments' but I can honestly say we now have a very happy kitty family!  Not to mention moving in with my husband one year ago with his elderly cat (another rescue).  Now all 3 are happy as can be and on occasion all take naps together on the same bed!  In a MILLION years I didn't think this would happen!

Please let anyone know who is interested in adopting a second or third cat that it CAN WORK!!!

    Lots of Love,
Carrie, Dave, Annick, Miles & Misty

    Charlie

It's been a year since we adopted our wonderful dog Charlie.  The laughter and love we have shared with him has been priceless!  My kids still rush home from school just to hang with Charlie.  I'm sure you've heard about how wonderful everyone elses dog is...well you're going to hear it one more time...Charlie has been the best thing to come into our family!  We were so pleased with the adoption that we have decided to adopt another dog.  The kids have already been to see the newest member of the family, have named him "Billie" and are patiently waiting to pick him up after his neutering.  Thank you MDAS for your outstanding work!

Will continue to add to the family in the future!

    Fiona

We adopted Fiona (Greta) in Sept last year before we moved to Colorado. She recovered from her heartworm, has gained weight as you can see and has turned out to be incredibly affectionate "shadow" companion for me. She adores hunting for critters in the woods (I'm sure she's mostly hound of some kind) and is getting used to the snowy winters.

I see that MDAS has had a record year...I wish I could be there to volunteer and help out. You are doing incredible work in really tough times. Wishing you the best,

    Cristyn
