Giovanni
We picked up Giovanni in June 2000 at 1 ½ years old from the Miami Dade Animal Services. We were looking for a second dog and a small dog at that. We were the first ones in the Shelter area and immediately ran to him. When we saw Giovanni. we thought he was a Pekingnese, however after some research we found out he was a Tibetian Spaniel. He has been a loyal companion to our family since we got him and we now refer to him as Grandpa.

Maria
She is the second of our dogs that we got from Miami Dade Animal Shelter. We adopted her in August 2003. Again we were looking for a small dog and ran into Maria. Funny thing, we thought she was a male, due to her feisty behavior, however once we got her and saw her, we knew she was the one for us. Again, she has been through our moving and watched our children grow up and leave. But every time they come home, they look for Maria and Giovanni, the originals. They enrich our lives!

Walker
We adopted (TOBBY) now named Walker last Sunday after seeing him on adoption pages of MDAS. We were unsure of how adding another dog to the house would work out but we are happy to say that its actually alot better because our dog Samson who we got 2 yrs ago from MDAS apparently needed a friend! Thank you so much for all the people who were fascillitators in bringing this little joy into our lives! Hes a 3 month old boxer mix!
Sincerely,
The Gauthier Family

Gus
A little over a year ago, on May 2, 2010, I adopted my baby from MDAS. He has been such a joy and a blessing! I think I was even luckier than he was on that special day. At the time, no one knew that Gus Gus (then Tuti) was deaf, so I thought I was taking a big risk adopting a dog that seemed to have no reaction to me. After he finished all the medicine for his kennel cough and parasites, he was a whole new dog! He is just the sweetest, happiest boy I have ever had. He has never had an accident in the house, and never displayed any aggression towards any person or animal. Thanks to him being deaf, he also almost never barks! He has become my little spoiled baby, and my husband is actually jealous of him now! Thank you for bringing me together with my sweet little Gus Gus.

Lucky
It was with great pleasure and excitement that we welcomed, on Nov 28th/2010, 8 weeks old Lucky into our lives.
He was a very scared and sick puppy, barely getting out of his bed in the 1st week. He was in a separate area and nobody could see him in person, only online. There were no holds on him and we decided he definitely needed loving parents! After putting a hold on him, the staff called us after a few hours and told us that, due he being yet too small to be neutered besides being sick, we should come back and take him home still the same day.
With some help of our amazing vet (Dr. Wilber at Brickell Animal Hospital), Lucky was cured within one month of hookworms, ringworm on his tail and one of the paws, and a suspicious of kennel cough. After this, he became happier though a little aggressive biting us and our guests; it became a little more serious after he started snarling. We didn't give up on him and hired a trainer (K9 Specialist) who helped us turning Lucky into a very friendly, sweet dog!
Now Lucky is 6 months old and 30Lbs heavier! He's becoming huge and we can see he is mostly a Black Lab although our trainer let us know he has some shepherd on him, especially because of his tough dominant behavior prior to the training. Now he's an adorable loving dog! He learns faster than we could ever imagine, besides being a great outdoor dog: he's playful with other dogs and people, never stays too far from us and when we call him he comes immediately to our side. He has a great deal of energy which we try to spend taking him to meet other dogs in doggy parks.
He's also still teething but our furniture is intact! He dedicated his chewing cravings to his toys (to our great relief!!).
We couldn't be happier with our baby!! Lucky brought so much happiness into our lives!!

Toby
My name is Kaleena and I adopted my dog Toby, a 10 month old Belgian Malinois, from Animal Services 3 years ago. He has been the most wonderful companion that I could ever hope for and he even saved my life. I was taking Toby out for a walk one night when I passed a neighbor's house that had two very aggressive dogs, I made a mental note to cross the street before walking back so that we didn't walk by their gate. On the way back, I happened to notice that there was only one dog in their yard. As I turned to look forward, the other dog was standing in front of Toby and I, growling and moving towards us. I began to slowly back away and the dog lunged at me, knocking me to the ground. The dog bit my leg and the next thing I knew, Toby was between us, fighting the other dog off of me. Thankfully, Toby was not hurt. He never backed down and stayed between me and the other dog. When the police arrived, they said I was lucky to have had my dog with me because the dog that attacked us could have easily killed me. He truly is my guardian angel on four legs. He is now 3 1/2 years old and enjoys his daily trips to the dog park, being groomed by his best friend Mr.Meow (a fluffy black cat), lounging around the house, and sometimes even taking over the bed. Thank you, Animal Services, for giving me my best friend and for finding him his forever home.
Sincerely,
Kaleena M. Carpenter

Ziggy
We wanted to add our story to your happy endings! We adopted Ziggy in June of 2010. From the moment my 6 year-old saw her at shelter, he knew she was our dog. Ziggy is amazing and we are so happy to have her as part of our family!! She is the sweetest, most loving, and happiest dog I've ever seen. She's been the most wonderful first pet for us! We were very lucky because she was both house trained and cage trained when we brought her home, and after a few months of additional training, she doesn't run off when we let her out anymore. She loves playing in the yard and making friends with all the neighborhood dogs and cats. She loves her very cozy bed and is a very spoiled little girl and has the run of the entire house. We love her and are so grateful that we found her! Thank you!

Lilu
I wanted to share my thoughts about Lilu. My husband and I adopted her last week March 22, 2011. She has bought us so much joy to our family and we cannot even imagine not having us in our lives. She is extremely playful and spoiled. My husband loves to spoil her she is his baby. I was very worried when the news of the distemperment broke. She is just fine!! To see my kids take care of her brings great joy to me she needs all the love and attention my family thank God is able to provide for her. It's funny when my kids say there nightly prayers and they thank God everyday for Lilu. She has really made an impact in my family. Thank you!!!!

Nisha
About a year and a half ago, I was searching for a dog that could be my best friend. I went to Animal Services and looked at each adorable dog, so I thought. I went around a second loop to finally decide on one, when I noticed a dog I didn't see before. Her name was "Babe". The black dog was hiding in the shadow of her cage. (Sadly, it is known that black dogs do not often get adopted.) She was so scared, that once we had to pry her out of her cage she didn't want to even walk and kept her belly to the ground. Once she came to her new home, her personality came through and, surprisingly, completely different. She was so sweet, smart and very playful! Her name is now "Nisha," which means night in Hindi. Now, My dog loves to run long distances with me and play with her stuffed toys. Also, she loves the dog park and playing in the lake or ocean with other doggie friends. Nisha is a great companion for me, and we hope many others will rescue a great new companion at their local shelter.

Lola
We adopted our lab mix, Lola, over a year ago from MDAS. She was a little shy and hesitant about new things at first, but she has since come out of her shell and has brought absolute joy to our life. She is such a intelligent, sweet and well behaved dog. I know that many adult dogs in shelters get overlooked because potential adopters often believe that they will not be able to bond with an adult dog who has had a difficult past or that such dogs have temperament or behavioral problems, but Lola is a true testament that the opposite can be true!
She is very loyal, loving and caring and truly appreciates the good things in life. She loves running, swimming and playing with her best friend Max, our neighbor's dog who is also from MDAS. She is just as happy to lie on the living room floor while my husband and I watch TV as she is to be running around outside. She has a constant doggy grin on her face.
Adopting a dog that was already beyond the puppy stage made bringing a dog into our home very easy on us. Lola was housebroken, very rarely barks, and has never chewed on a single thing she's not supposed to chew on. We never had to worry about accidents on the floor or her chewing on my favorite shoe. Instead, we've been able to concentrate our training efforts on the fun things like "high five" and "rollover."
Having been a stray, Lola knows how lucky she is now to have a good home and enjoys every minute of life. And we enjoy every minute we can spend with her.

Mabel
When we first saw Mabel she was very scruffy looking and hiding quietly at the back of her cage. We knew that if we didn't take her then her chances of adoption would be pretty slim, and thank goodness we did! She has completely changed our lives- we've met new friends, lost all of our Christmas weight with all the walking and discovered a whole host of new doggie friendly activities to do at the weekends!
However, the best change of all is the fun she has brought to our lives! She is a real character with a great love of all people, dogs and children and so gets lots of attention wherever she goes. She is also very intelligent- she came to us knowing nothing but has since learned many tricks (and she's bilingual- I am from England and my husband is French!).
We wouldn't be without this charming, happy bundle of fur and would encourage anyone to adopt- you're not only saving a life but gaining a friend, exercise buddy, social networker, de-stresser and all round entertainer! You won't regret it.

Chloe
We adopted Chloe on September 26, 2010. She was only 1 year old. Nobody wanted her because she was filthy and very matted. She had kennel cough and was scheduled to be euthanized. We were able to see beyond that and fell in love with her the minute we saw her. It's amazing what a bath, haircut, and antibiotic will do…and, of course, lots of TLC!!! We are so happy because of the loving home she now has-you can tell everyday how grateful she is too! But, we absolutely love and adore her and she has given us so much more back in return. She has been a wonderful addition and we are so glad we opened our heart and home to her because we could not picture our lives without her.
Please look at the before and after pictures. She doesn't even look like the same dog.

Oreo
We were looking for a small/medium breed and instead there were to little "pit-boxers" in a cage. One tan/white and the other black and white....
The black-white pit-boxer pushed the other guy against the wall when we walked in! He picked us! We chose the black/white and when we were filling out the paperwork, we were asked: What will you name him? and we said "Oreo, of course; just look at him" And the guy behind the counter said "I'd thought you'd name him lucky because he expired today."
Oreo's "last day" was the first day of the rest of his life!
He's enriched us in so many ways... He's everyone's dog! To know him is most definitely to love him :) He sits, speaks, lays down and jumps in the tub on command! WE LOVE OREO!!! He's a beautiful pound-puppy :)
