Fargo

After losing my beloved dog, Reno to Degenerative Myelopathy last June, I vowed never to own another dog.  But after only a couple of months, I decided to take a tour through Animal Care’s shelter.  I wanted a smaller dog, but not a toy.  After about 30 minutes, I was ready to leave, but a dog in one of the smaller cages caught my eye.  He was a little terrier mix, and was leaning against the cage door, and wagging only the very end of his tail.  He made me smile immediately.

We got acquainted, and I decided to adopt him.  That was August 30, 2008.  His name was “Lalito.”  As soon as I got him home, he peed on everything that didn’t move, ate a large piece of my kitchen floor, shredded three textbooks, scared the be jeepers out of my cats, and wormed his little way into my heart.

Well, it’s been almost a year, and little “Lalito” has been renamed “Fargo” because he’s “little and funny looking”.   He has settled in, stopped antagonizing the cats, and, generally, only chews on his toys.  Fargo makes me smile all the time, and makes me laugh daily.  He loves to wake up in the morning, and snuggles under the quilt at night.   He’s a forever dog, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him.

Selene

My boyfriend and I adopted our beautiful little Selene in September (around the fourth) of last year.  Growing up I was never allowed to have a cat as a pet (my mom's not a cat person) so when I moved out I was excited and determined to adopt a kitten.  Unfortunately, my boyfriend Ralph, with whom I'd moved out with, was allergic to cats :(  Thankfully, like me he is and animal lover, and so agreed to take on whatever allergy medications or injections he needed to take in order for us to have a kitten.

We went to animal services and I immediately fell in love with Selene.  She was this tiny little thing that clung to me and allowed me to pet her without protest.  You know, they say that you never really pick a pet but that they pick you.  Well, Selene picked us.  And for the last few months she has brought us nothing but love and joy!  Oh...and as far as Ralph goes...could you believe that he's not allergic to her!  When we got Selene we had no idea that she was a medium hair cat and it seems that he is only allergic to short hair cats!  Naturally, he is ecstatic about this and just loves her.  He never thought that he would ever be able to have a cat.  She is our little princess and we can't thank you enough for rescuing her and making all of this possible.

p.s.  By the way she also gets along amazingly with our dogs.  Her big brothers are protective of her and dote on her more than we do.

Liluh

Hello, we adopted Liluh two months ago, she was a little shy at first but she got used to her new home. And now she has a lot of toys to play with and a bunch of friends in the local park, she loves running, she is the fastest!!!. Since she arrived to our family, everything changed and we couldn’t be happier. She brought to our lives so many positive teachings, and mostly she taught us the value of unconditional love. Thank you for your efforts to give this loving babies another chance.

Papi

Hi my name is Gretchen, we adopted "Papi" yesterday 21 of April 09. This is the best experience in the world."Papi" is just so sweet and grateful.  I recommend anyone to adopt a dog or a cat.  He is happy and gets along with my cat.  My kids  just have these big smile and "Papi" enjoy's being with them.  From the momment we adopted him his life changed forever! He still has a long way to recover from all the time he spent as a stray dog but he will be fine...... he has a family, a forever family!

Hopps

We adopted a skinny little dog from Animal Services on January 5, 2009.  We named her Hopps, and she has brought so much joy and love into our lives.  She's really enjoying her new South Beach neighborhood.  She loves the dog park, the beach, tennis balls, peanut butter, and all of her new friends (both human and canine). We're so happy we had the opportunity to give Hopps a new home, and we are grateful for her every day.
