Misha

Hello My name is Leonor Portela Fernandez and I adopted Misha from the Animal shelter on June 2, 2009. Misha has been a wonderful addition to our family.

My husband and I, as well as our two children, quickly fell in love with her. Misha also joined her sisters Sachi, another Dachsund and Mela, a Tabby Cat.  Misha and Sachi are now BFFs. We had previously been turned down in our attempt to adopt a rescue Dachsund because we had other pets and family that visits with small children, I was very disappointed at the time but am now extremely glad that happened. Had it not been for that, Misha would not be a part of our family today. She is an extremely loving dog and a joy to be with. We look forward to providing her a loving home for many years to come. I encourage everyone who is considering getting a pet to look at the Animal Shelter. We are blessed for doing so.

Henry Holmes Moran

In the time that he's been with me, "Jupiter," the 22 lb. non-conforming sad-looking dog with scars, kennel cough, and debilitating fear of abuse, has become my best friend and my closest companion. He is now named Henry Holmes, as he'd selected his own first name and I'd been reading Sherlock Holmes story at the shelter while I'd waited to adopt him. He is a healthy 44 lbs. and lives with me and my 10 year-old cat, Lenore, herself a rescued cat. Though he retains the sad puppy dog look, he is happy and knows that he is loved. He has been a calendar model (Mr. October) for a Tri-County Animal Hospital fundraiser that my company had put together in 2008 and has many friends, human, canine, and feline, that look to him for companionship.

MJ

"Nola" the wire haired terrier whom we have adopted from your shelter and renamed "MJ" (Spiderman's girlfriends name - Mary Jane).

She is the most inquisitive, smartest, sweetest little girl pup my daughter has ever had.  We have pure breeds at home that we have had difficulty training.  But "MJ" came home already potty trained and has the sweetest temperment I have ever witnessed.  She is my daughters companion since my daughter has moved away from home to live on her own.  I am so happy my daughter has found a little companion that provides an never ending flow of unconditional love and licks.  May God bless all of you for the work you do to help these furry creatures find new homes whom have been placed on this planet by God for our enjoyment and to put smiles on our faces as we walked through the ever challenging events in our lives today.  I always tell everyone who meets her that she is Miami Dade's Shelter Poster Pup of the Year!!

Thank you!!

The day we brought Shunsi home

Shunsi now

Shunsi

Please let me introduce you to Shunsi! My family and I adopted her in January of 2008 after the rather tragic death of my previous dog. We weren't sure if we were ready to move on but she certainly showed us that we were! She definitely had some big shoes to fill and did it in a breeze just by being the sweetest and most caring dog we could've asked for. My parents actually think my previous dog has reincarnated in her!

Adopting my dog from the Animal Services Department awoke my sense of awareness about homeless pets and since then I became a volunteer and have helped in any way I can. I cannot emphasize enough what an AMAZING job everyone at the shelter does on a daily basis by keeping up with all the animals, promoting good pet practices, reuniting lost pets with their loved ones and finding loving homes for so many others.

Kaiser

Yesterday was the 1-year anniversary of our dog Kaiser's adoption from MDAS and it's been an amazing year. He loves long walks and spending time with us, whether it's watching TV, cooking or reading. We bought him a life vest and he's already a great petty officer! He truly is an amazing companion to me and my husband. He has an amazing personality too, gentle, loving and funny. I can't put my finger on it but rescue dogs are different, as if they knew exactly where they came from and have all this love to share.

Take care,

Anabella Querales
