Veterinary Clinics & Pet Dealers Licensing

Description of each Tag License:

Puppy Tag

Puppy Tags will be available only to Pet Dealers (defined as pet stores, breeders) for puppies sold or adopted up to four (4) months of age. The shape of the puppy tag is a bone. This is the only tag that indicates the puppy has yet to be vaccinated against rabies. Veterinarians are not required to issue puppy tags, only Pet Dealers. Upon selling or adopting a puppy, a puppy certificate is to be filled out. The Pet Dealer keeps a copy and provides a copy to the pet owner. The third copy is to be forwarded to Animal Services no later than the 10th of each month and reported on the Monthly Accounting Report. A box of Puppy Tags will contain 100 tags.  The tag number is prefixed with the letter "P." There is no fee for the Puppy Tag.

Junior Tag

The Junior Rabies Tag is available for puppies between four (4) months and one (1) year of age. The Junior Tag will be in the shape of a heart. A box of Junior Tags will contain 100 tags.  The tag number is prefixed with the letter "Y." The cost of a Junior Tag is $25 regardless of sterilization status.

One-Year Tag

The One-Year Rabies Tag, at $25 for a sterilized dog and $50 for an intact dog is not changing. Dog owners may chose to continue to purchase a tag each year.

Three-Year Tag

The Three-Year Tag is gold and can only be purchased at the time the three year vaccine is given. Stations that do not administer the 3-year vaccine are not required to carry the Three-Year Tag.  As such, you may return the box the tags to our office. Please send an email to tag@miamidade.gov and we will arrange for its pickup.   The tag number is prefixed with the letter "T."
