Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department waives adoption fees for all shelter pets in September in an effort to find them homes

(MIAMI, September 11, 2013) – September is traditionally the month with the lowest adoption rate of the year as summer intake of abandoned pets peaks. Over the past week more than 450 stray and surrendered pets have entered the shelter. In an effort to unite these shelter pets with loving families, Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (ASD) is waiving adoption fees for all pets. This offer will be valid the entire month of September.

ASD has been able to rescue almost 80% of dogs this year and has increased the cat save rate exponentially.  While the save rate is at an all-time high, it is essential to continue to find new and loving homes for all pets.  “This Fee Waived Initiative is another method for raising awareness and reaching out to the community”, said Alex Muñoz, Director, Animal Services Department Director.
