Miami-Dade County Animal Services and Commissioner Juan C. Zapata will host pet adoptions and free spay/neuter surgeries to help celebrate the dedication of the West Kendall district dog park, Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, 2014

(Miami, March 31, 2014) –To celebrate the dedication of two new prefabricated shelters at the West Kendall District Dog Park and the groundbreaking of a project that will improve the park’s parking area and storm drainage, Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (ASD), and Commissioner Juan C. Zapata, will offer 50 percent off pet adoptions and free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats. The event will take place on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday April 6, 2014, at the West Kendall District Dog Park, located at 11255 SW 157 Avenue, Miami Florida 33196.

Dog spay/neuter surgeries* are available for Saturday, April 5, 2014, by appointment only. Dogs must be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. and will be ready for pick-up at 5:00 p.m. To schedule an appointment for dogs, please call 3-1-1.

Cat spay/neuter surgeries* are available for Sunday, April 6, 2014, by appointment only. Cats must be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. and will be ready for pick-up at 4:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment for cats email: [email protected] or call 305-233-9958.

Pet adoptions will take place on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adoption fees will be reduced by 50 percent. Adoption fees for dogs over 35 lbs. will be waived and adopters will be only be responsible for a $27 license fee. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go to forever homes.

The two day celebration of the West Kendall District Dog Park dedication includes fun, family-friendly activities, pet training demonstrations and food trucks at the park on both days.

“It is great to be able to bring residents together and continue to enhance the sense of community out in the West End,” said Commissioner Juan C. Zapata.

*Requirements; No Exceptions:  Service for Miami-Dade County residents only. A maximum of four (4) appointments per residential address. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided for all dogs. Dogs without a current rabies vaccine will be vaccinated at the time of surgery (only dogs up to 40 pounds are eligible).   Veterinarians may decline surgery of any pet due to health reasons.
