Members of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 83 team up with Animal Services to host low cost pet adoptions, free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats and a pet food collection drive, Saturday, August 30, 2014

(MIAMI, August 19, 2014) – Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services) teams up with members of the Troop 83, Boy Scouts of America to offer host 50 percent off pet adoptions, free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats, and a pet food collection drive, Saturday, August 30, 2014, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center located at 250 SW 114th Ave, Miami, FL.

Troop 83 Boy Scout members –and animal lovers–Daniel Alvaro and Carlos Helena reached out to Animal Services to help create, collaborate and host the event as their Eagle Scout Project.

“It’s great to see the efforts put forth by these two young men to help us in reaching our goal of a no kill Miami-Dade County,” said Alex Muñoz, Director of Animal Services. “I find it admirable that our young people are aware of the need and importance to spay or neuter and to get our pets adopted.”

Spay/Neuter surgeries are by appointment only.* To schedule an appointment for dogs, please call 3-1-1. Dogs must be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. and picked-up at 4 p.m.

To schedule an appointment for cats email: [email protected] or call 305-233-9958. Cats must be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. and will be ready for pick-up at 4:30 p.m.

Pet adoptions will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Fees will be reduced by 50 percent. Adoption fees for dogs over 35 lbs. are waived until August 31, 2014, and adopters will be only be responsible for a $27 license fee. Adoption fees are also waived for all cats over 4 months old until August 31, 2014. All adopted are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go to forever homes.
The pet food drive benefits Animal Services. Those wishing to contribute to the pet food drive are asked to bring dry or canned food for dogs or cats.
*Spay/Neuter Requirements. No Exceptions: Service is for Miami-Dade County residents only. A maximum of four appointments per residential address. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided for all dogs. Dogs without a current rabies vaccine will be vaccinated at the time of surgery (only dogs 40 lbs. and under are eligible).   Veterinarians may decline surgery of any pet due to health reasons.
