(MIAMI, September 23, 2014) – Save the date to fall in love with a shelter pet! The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) Mega-Match-a-thon will once again take place as a 24-hour pet adoption event and family festival beginning on Oct. 17, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. and ending on Oct. 18, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. at Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40th St, Miami, FL 33155.

As part of the ASPCA® Miami-Dade Community Partnership, Miami-Dade County Animal Services (Animal Services), the Humane Society of Greater Miami (HSGM) and The Cat Network, Inc. (Cat Network) received grant funding to participate in the 2014 ASPCA® Mega Match-a-thon event, presented by Subaru, as part of large-scale adoption events held simultaneously nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals.

Potential adopters will have the opportunity to meet, fall in love with and adopt one or more of dozens of adorable cats, kittens, dogs and puppies from each of the partner agencies ― as well as several invited local rescue groups ― at low fees, in a fun and festive fall themed atmosphere.

''This is the third year that all three agencies work together as ASPCA Community Partners on this nationwide event,'' said Alex Muñoz, Director of Animal Services. ''We decided to go back to making it a 24-hour pet adoption event which creates excitement and also offers a longer window of opportunity for every pet to find their forever home.''

''We are very excited to once again partake in the Mega Match-a-thon and enrich the lives of so many families by bringing these wonderful pets into their homes and their hearts,'' said Laurie Hoffman, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. ''The more we adopt, the more we can save!''

Individuals are encouraged to stay tuned as event details unfold by visiting the partner websites; animals.miamidade.gov, humanesocietymiami.org and thecatnetwork.org.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services
Unlike limited admission facilities, Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services) takes in all abandoned pets to its shelter providing care and refuge for approximately 500 pets weekly (over 27,000 per year). Every day, Animal Services staff and volunteers work diligently to find life-long homes for these abandoned animals by facilitating onsite adoptions, hosting off-site adoption at events and locations throughout the community, and working collaboratively with over 70 rescue organizations who share in our goal of a No Kill Miami-Dade County.

Humane Society of Greater Miami
The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a limited admit, adoption guarantee facility dedicated to placing every dog and cat in our care into a loving home and to promoting responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter programs. Adoption guarantee simply means that every animal under our care is safe from the threat of euthanasia for as long as it takes to find them a forever family

The Cat Network
The Cat Network, Inc. is a 501(c)3, Florida not-for-profit corporation dedicated to humanely reducing cat overpopulation by educating the public about the need to sterilize their pets and strays; providing access to low-cost spay/neuter services for stray, homeless and abandoned cats; helping members in their efforts to place adoptable cats in loving homes; and advocating non-lethal population control and humane public policy.
