Miami-Dade County Animal Services reminds pet owners to keep their pets warm and safe during cool weather

(MIAMI, Dec. 10) – Miami-Dade County Animal Services recommends that all pets be kept inside with a warm place to sleep this evening and during any period of cold weather.

Pets that cannot be brought inside the home need to have access to proper shelter and bedding for warmth. A shelter for outdoor dogs is required, by law, at all times to protect the animal from the elements. It is crucial that puppies and senior dogs be kept indoors tonight as they do not tolerate cold weather well.

Outdoor cats tend to seek warmth found under the hood of vehicles; therefore, if there are outdoor cats in your area, it is advisable to lightly tap the hood of your vehicle before entering to allow any cats the chance to escape prior to starting the engine.
