(MIAMI, February 5, 2015) – Miami-Dade County Animal Services will once again hold its weeklong celebration of Valentine’s Day by offering 50 percent off pet adoption fees during the annual Open Your Heart and Your Home Pet Adoption Week, from Saturday, February 7 through Sunday, February 15, 2015. Adopters can take home a furry valentine that is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go to a forever home.

The weeklong promotion kicks-off with a pet adoption and fundraiser event on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Amelia Earhart Park, Bill Graham Farm Village, 401 E 65th St, Hialeah, FL. The event, sponsored by Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr., Dist. 13, will also feature 50 percent off pet adoption fees and free spay or neuter surgeries.  Event-goers can also enjoy music, food, pony rides, a farm animal petting zoo and activities for the whole family.

“Miami-Dade Animal Services has plenty of loving pets that are in need of a happy home,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “I encourage local animal lovers to open their hearts and bring one of these wonderful companions home during the upcoming pet adoption week.”

“I invite everyone in our community to this fun-filled pet adoption and fundraiser event at Amelia Earhart Park this Saturday,” said Commissioner Bovo. “Off-site pet adoption and pet sterilization events are a great way to have our community share in Miami-Dade Animal Services’ very important efforts to achieve its no-kill goal.”

Free spay/Neuter surgeries are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment please call 3-1-1.

Requirements (No Exceptions): Service is for Miami-Dade County residents only. A maximum of four (4) appointments per residential address is allowed. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided for all dogs and cats. Dogs and cats without a current rabies vaccine will be vaccinated at the time of surgery. Only dogs under 40 pounds are eligible for mobile spay/neuter surgery. Cats should be brought in a pet carrier to ensure their safety.  Veterinarians may decline surgery of any pet due to health reasons.
