Miami-Dade County Animal Services launches new spay/neuter voucher program for dogs over 50 pounds

ASPCA, ASD and Humane Society of Greater Miami

(MIAMI, April 9, 2015) – A new voucher program from Miami-Dade County Animal Services offers low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for dogs weighing 50 pounds and over. The program—made possible by ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) grant funds—helps make sterilization of large dogs in our community more accessible and affordable.

The vouchers are available during regular business hours at the Animal Services shelter, located at 7401NW 74 St., Miami, on a first come first serve basis. The program is open to all Miami-Dade County residents owning dogs weighing 50 pounds and over.  Dog owners can redeem the vouchers to obtain sterilization, rabies and DHPP vaccinations, if needed, for a total cost of $30.00 at the following locations:

Miami-Dade County Community Spay Neuter Clinic
10700 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay
Call 305-749-1854 for appointment
A Miami-Dade Animal Services no kill project in partnership with the Humane Society of Greater Miami

Humane Society of Greater Miami
16101 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach

The $30.00 fee applies whether the dog requires vaccines or not, there are no discounts or prorates of the fee for a dog presented with current vaccines. Spay/Neuter surgeries are by appointment only, please contact the location of choice to schedule.

“Being able to offer low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for dogs over 50 pounds is an important step toward helping to reduce the number of pets abandoned at Animal Services,” said Alex Muñoz, Director of Animal Services. “Every week approximately 500 pets are abandoned at the shelter—unfortunately big dogs make up a large number of those unwanted animals.”
