Maria Arista-Volsky works in the Tort & Medical Malpractice and the Social Services & Public Health Sections and handles all legal matters involving The Children's Trust, a special taxing district of Miami-Dade County serving children and families in our community.
After graduation from Indiana University School of Law, Maria worked for a large law firm in Miami, Smathers & Thompson. Subsequently she served five years as Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, where she received a U.S. Department of Justice, Special Achievement Award. She practiced extensively at the trial and appellate levels in the federal system, handling a myriad of civil cases and developing expertise in the defense of medical cases involving military healthcare providers and hospitals.
Since joining the County Attorney's Office she has litigated in the state trial and appellate courts, primarily defending medical cases involving the Public Health Trust. Maria also specializes in professional regulatory matters and over the years has successfully defended many cases before State of Florida professional regulatory boards and the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings in Tallahassee. She assists risk management at the Public Health Trust on regulatory issues involving healthcare practitioners
