John McInnis is currently a member of the Land Use Section. John has been practicing in the area of zoning and land use law for over 17 years. He served in the office’s Labor and Employment Law Section from 1983 to 1994, and during that period, served as counsel to the County’s Equal Opportunity Board. John was also a member of the Commercial Law Section from 1992 to 2007, and represented the County’s Department of Business Development.
As a member of the County Attorney’s Office, John has handled numerous trials and appeals. He successfully argued before the Florida Supreme Court that a county may lawfully prohibit housing discrimination on the basis of age. He also prevailed in the Florida Supreme Court, arguing that a county disciplinary action is not an action for unpaid wages for which the employer may be liable for attorney’s fees.
