Eugene Shy, Jr. is the section chief of the Public Health Trust practice group, which handles all of the Trust's legal issues, including by not limited to, general counsel-type matters in the healthcare arena, board and committee involvement, Stark and Anti-Kickback issues, commercial and contracting matters, leases, medical staff issues, and guardianships.

Gene's private sector experience in real estate and transactional matters were utilized in his initially representing the Housing Department, Housing Finance Authority and working in the commercial unit of the office. In 1994, he was assigned to represent the Public Health Trust, which has been his primary practice area since then. He was made section chief for the PHT practice group in 1997.

Prior to joining the office, Mr. Shy acquired significant experience in the private sector having started his legal career at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP. He later became a founding partner of the Law Offices of Beatty & Shy and the Law Offices of Eugene Shy, Jr.

Gene played basketball for the Florida Gators, and remains in the top ten in scoring for University of Florida Basketball.
