The new Marlins ballpark and parking structures will be designed and constructed to meet "silver" status in the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. The LEED certification program is a consensus-based national rating system that provides a defined process for measuring and documenting environmentally-responsible practices for high performance and sustainable buildings.
LEED addresses all building types and phases of a building's lifecycle. The Marlins ballpark will be the nation's first retractable roof Major League Baseball Stadium to obtain LEED Silver certification, and, only the third ballpark overall to reach any level of LEED certification.
Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, the Florida Marlins, and Major League Baseball are partnering in this endeavor to go "green". Check back here for updates on the many different "green" elements that will be incorporated into this project.
