Who is eligible for group benefits?

  • Any full-time regular Miami-Dade County employee who has completed 90 days of employment. Coverage becomes effective the first of the month following, or coincident to 90 days of employment.
  • Any part-time employee who consistently works at least 60 hours biweekly and has completed 90 days of employment. If there is a reduction in hours worked, the employee must begin the 90-day count over again to establish benefits eligibility.  Coverage becomes effective the first of the month following or coincident to 90 days of employment. The part-timer must continue to satisfy the minimum requirement of 60 hours biweekly to remain eligible for benefits.
  • Employees must be actively at work for disability or group life benefits to become effective.
  • There is no waiting period to participate in the deferred compensation plan.

For further questions regarding your benefits eligibility, contact your Department Personnel Representative (DPR).

When does coverage begin?

Benefit coverage begins on the 1st of the month following or coincident to 90 days of employment.  All new employees are required to enroll for benefits directly online, through the County’s eNet portal New Hire Benefits Enrollment link. Only new employees meeting the benefits eligibility criteria can access the enrollment website.  If you do not submit your benefits elections prior to your benefits effective date, you will be automatically enrolled in the AvMed Low Option HMO and Humana-OHS standard option dental plan.
