Heidi Johnson-Wright - Director
Office of Americans with Disabilities Act ADA Coordination
Heidi Johnson-Wright was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She lived for a decade and a half in Columbus, Ohio and then moved to the greater Miami area with her husband in 2000.
Mrs. Johnson-Wright has 17 years of compliance experience including expertise in Americans with Disabilities Act, building code issues, human resources, equal employment opportunity, and government regulations and policy. She currently runs the Office of ADA Coordination with a staff of nine, an operating budget of $1.2 million, and a multi-year $45 million construction program.
Before joining the County, she was an ADA Coordinator at the City of Miami Beach. Some of her career highlights include serving as principle ADA Coordinator for virtually every city department, researching and advising top level management on access issues involving rights of way, capital projects, parks, parking facilities, information technology, communications, beaches, special events and other matters, implementing and managing city-wide wheelchair curb ramp project addressing intersections on city-controlled streets, and performing reviews of building plans for rights of way and capital improvement projects.
She also practiced law for over a decade as an attorney with a State of Ohio regulatory agency.
Mrs. Johnson-Wright has a B.A. in English from Kent State University where she received a Young Alumni Achievement Award. She also has her Juris Doctor degree (law) from Ohio State University. She was a Gubernatorial Appointee to the Ohio Governor's Council on People with Disabilities.
She was a poster child for the Arthritis Foundation where for many years, she volunteered by doing public speaking, public education and fundraising.
