Mrs. Coats-Davis has had an extensive career with Miami-Dade County that has spanned 29 years. She has held a variety of positions, including serving as a Teacher’s Aide at Richmond Elementary School, working for the Miami-Dade Clerk of the Circuit Courts, as an Administrative Officer (training 102 Secretaries during her employment) with Miami-Dade Transit Agency.
She has worked with the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) as an Administrative Officer to the Assistant Director. Mrs. Coats-Davis was also a Special Event Coordinator, responsible for developing a plan to organize 1,500 employees for the grand opening of Miami-Dade Transit System and the rerouting of Metrobus Network 86 program. She has also served as the Campaign Manager for State Representative Larcenia Bullard.
Currently she is the Director of the Miami-Dade County Office of the Agenda Coordinator, County Manager’s Office. She is responsible for the overall supervision, administration, development and implementation of the BCC agenda process. Mrs. Coats-Davis ensures that every aspect of the agenda has been coordinated and incorporated into the official agenda package and delivered to the 13 Miami-Dade County Commissioners four days prior to the Board of County Commissioners meeting, which is held on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
Emphasis of the work includes assurance of compliance with the Home Rule Charter, Commission Rules and County Codes as they pertain to the agendas. She must also assure that the general public has knowledge of each meeting and receives all pertinent information. Mrs. Coats-Davis is also responsible for ensuring the final distribution of the Official Board of County Commissioners Consent, Ratification, Comprehensive Development Master Plan, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Zoning and Committee Agendas Kits.
Additionally, she is responsible for training 42 departments in the preparation of agenda items. She interacts daily with the County Manager, Assistants to the County Manager, County Attorney’s Office and the Clerk of the Board Office. Mrs. Coats-Davis has extensive knowledge of personal computers, organizational, public relations, and managerial skills.
She currently holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Miami-Dade Community College; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Barry University; has done graduate work at Nova University and; has completed the Miami-Dade Supervisor Management Training Program and Culture Diversity classes.
She is a Charter Member of the Miami-Dade Community College Alumni Association; a member of the Barry University Alumni Association; American Society for Public Administration; the Family Christian Association of America; State of Florida Notary Public Underwriters, Inc., and the National Notary Association.
She sits on the Executive Committee for Miami-Dade County’s Legistar Tracking System for Board of County Commissioners items (which is currently published on the internet). She also helped pioneer this technology in the development of the Legistar System.
She is a member of the Gamma Omega Zeta of the Alpha Kappa Sorority Chapter. She was the past president of Richmond Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association and Coordinator of the South Dade Culture Arts Task Force. Mrs. Coats-Davis is one of the keynote speakers at the Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center annually.
She was recognized by the Board of County Commissioners’ as one of the outstanding citizens in Miami-Dade County for her contributions to the community after Hurricane Andrew. The Miami-Dade Office of Fair Employment Practices presented Mrs. Coats-Davis with an award in recognition of exemplary achievement in Public Administration.
Mrs. Coats-Davis hobbies are: reading, writing poetry, creative arts, sewing, craft, culinary arts, organizing events for special occasions, motivational speaking, and tutoring young ladies in the Dade County Public School System.
Mrs. Coats-Davis is a native Miamian, currently residing in Richmond Heights, Florida. She is married and has two children and three grandsons. She is an active member and Sunday School Teacher at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church located in Coconut Grove, Florida.
