Biographies

Mr. Navarrete was appointed Director of the Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) on June 12, 2010. He had served as Assistant Director of OCI since November, 2008.  He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture and a master's degree in construction management from Florida International University.  Mr. Navarrete has more than 30 years experience in project and construction management.  He previously worked for the Miami-Dade Transit Agency for over 22 years, where he worked on every major transit project in the county including the Metrorail and Metromover projects.  He has also worked in the private sector as a consultant.  Mr. Navarrete has published several articles and lectured in the areas of construction scheduling, project management and project control.

Mr. Navarrete is now responsible for the implementation of the County's $2.9 billion Building Better Communities bond program, the Safe Neighborhood Parks Program and the Quality Neighborhood Improvements Program.   He also oversees the Miscellaneous Construction Contracts Program, the Architecture and Engineering Selection process and other issues related to construction and contracting in general.

Mr. Navarrete was born in Cuba in 1955. He and his wife Libby live in the Falls area with their daughter.
