    Building
    Charles Danger, P.E., Director

Charles Danger, P.E., was appointed as the Director of Miami-Dade County’s Building Department on October 1, 1998.  In this position, Mr. Danger oversees the management and daily operation of the building permitting, plan review, enforcement and inspection activities of the Building Department. His duties and responsibilities involve directing a departmental staff of approximately 350 employees in the protection of the public's welfare and safety through enforcement of the Florida Building Code and all other applicable construction regulations. Under his direction, the Building Department has on average issued 100, 000+ permits; conducted 500,000+ inspections; and reviewed 250,000+ plans annually.

Since being appointed, Mr. Danger has initiated several internal improvements and developed an aggressive agenda to reform and automate the permit, plan review, and inspection processes within the Building Department. The Building Department, in a joint effort with the Information Technology Department, was named one of ComputerworldROI's Top Wireless Innovators for 2001. Under his leadership, the Building Department joins a prestigious group of user organizations that have distinguished themselves as clear front-runners in successfully employing emerging and rapidly evolving wireless technologies. He has played a key role in the smooth flow of services during the move of the Building Department to the new Miami-Dade County Herbert S. Saffir Permitting and Inspection Center, located at 11805 S.W. 26 Street which provides a "one stop shop of permitting services".

Mr. Danger, who also serves as the Building Official for the unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County, has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from California State College in Los Angeles and is a
licensed professional engineer, a certified code administrator, and a registered electrical contractor, all in the state of Florida. . From 1991 to 1998, Mr. Danger served as Director of the Miami-Dade Office of Building Code Compliance where he had countywide responsibility.

From 1988 to 1991, Mr. Danger was the Chief Electrical Inspector for Miami-Dade County and before that Mr. Danger had 20 years experience in the private sector.

Mr. Danger is known for his outstanding work in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.  His dedication and professional ability have garnered him a national reputation for excellence.  In December 1997, Mr. Danger was named one of the ten best public officials of the year by Governing Magazine, and congratulated by the White House on his commitment to public service.

Mr. Danger has spearheaded the arduous and complex process of strengthening the South Florida Building Code. With the new Florida Building Code in effect since March 1, 2002, Mr. Danger is providing the necessary direction and guidance for proper and efficient implementation of this new code on unincorporated Dade County.

With his experience and expertise, Mr. Danger has and continues to be a great asset in restoring the credibility and integrity of the Building Department’s building construction permitting, plan review and inspection process.
