Cathy Grimes Peel, Director

Cathy Grimes Peel was appointed Director of the Miami-Dade Consumer Services Department (CSD) on August 1, 2003. The department functions as the consumer information and protection arm for Miami-Dade County residents and visitors.

Previously, she served as Deputy Director of the Consumer Services Department from 1994 until her appointment as Director. As Deputy Director, she was involved in all aspects of department operations, encompassing for-hire regulations, consumer protection, and Cooperative Extension activities. She also was responsible for administrative functions such as information technology, legal support, collections, fiscal and budgetary matters, procurement, and personnel, as well as public information and outreach, and consumer advocacy functions.

Ms. Peel joined Miami-Dade County in 1981, beginning in the Office of Citizen Services, where she assisted citizens with problems encountered with County government. She served in various positions over a 12-year period with the Office of Cable Television Coordination starting in 1982, first as an administrative assistant assisting consumers with cable television complaints, and ending as the Cable Television Coordinator responsible for all aspects of cable television company licensing, regulation and code compliance. During this time she was a member of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, a professional association of cable television and communications company regulatory agencies, and was selected as Member of the Year in 1994.

Ms. Peel received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, and a Masters of Science in Management from St. Thomas University.
