Wendi Norris was appointed director in April 2006 after serving as interim director of the General Services Administration since July 2005. She leads nearly 800 employees delivering central support services necessary for the continued operation of county government. She has been with the department since 1997, beginning as an Assistant Director for administration and procurement, obtaining progressive promotions with more responsibility, culminating with her appointment as Deputy Director in 2003.
During her tenure as an assistant director, Ms. Norris was instrumental in creating the new Department of Procurement Management, drawing upon her experience as acting director of that former division for nearly a year. In the wake of the September 11, 2001 tragedy, she led a team of county staff surveying county facilities and prioritizing resources for securing them.
Ms. Norris began her career with Miami-Dade County in 1991 as a public information officer at the Aviation Department. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan.
