Biographies

Mary Lou Rizzo was appointed Director of the Human Resources Department on January 7, 2011.
With more than 25 years of public service experience, Ms. Rizzo has shown a commitment to enhancing the quality of service the County provides to the community by maintaining a diverse, competent, and trained workforce.

Before being appointed Director of the Human Resources Department, Ms. Rizzo served as Division Director of the Human Resources Department's Recruitment, Compensation and Testing Division, a position she held since 1997. In that role, she oversaw recruitment, job analysis and compensation determination, as well as the development and administration of employment examinations.

Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Rizzo spearheaded the development and implementation of an online job application system; directed three major workforce reduction projects in compliance with collective bargaining and civil service requirements; and helped design and implement an award-winning paperless national criminal history background check process.

Ms. Rizzo holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Fordham University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami. 

She is the proud parent of two children:  Carolyn, a speech language pathologist and Louis, an attorney.
