Over the last 34 years, Bill Johnson has held a number of executive level positions within Miami-Dade County government including oversight of the County's airport, seaport and several major infrastructure projects.
Among his many accomplishments are development of both the Performing Arts Center and the American Airlines Arena, the expansion of PortMiami’s cruise business and implementation of one of the most ambitious capital improvement programs in the seaport’s history.
Since 2006 he has served as Director of PortMiami, Miami-Dade's second largest economic engine. During his eight-year tenure, Mr. Johnson launched a $2 billion in infrastructure improvements including: construction of the Port tunnel in conjunction with the Florida State Department of Transportation; the re-introduction of on-dock freight rail with Florida East Coast Railway; and the deepening of the Port’s channel to -50 feet to accommodate the new generation of larger, container cargo vessels.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Bill Johnson holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Tennessee and serves in a leadership role in a number of maritime, business and economic development organizations at the national and international levels including: Vice President, International Association of Ports and Harbors; Chairman, Florida Ports Council; Chairman, World Trade Center Miami Board of Directors; Florida Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors (CAGTC) Board of Directors; US Chamber Let’s Rebuild America Leadership Council; Federal Reserve Bank Trade and Transportation Advisory Council; Florida District Export Council; The Beacon Council Board of Trustees; Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Governors; Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Circle; and Past Chair, Miami Beach Latin Chamber of Commerce.Back to Top Page Last Edited: Tue Apr 1, 2014 9:52:12 AM
