Irene Taylor-Wooten , Special Assistant for Social Services
Irene Taylor-Wooten was appointed Special Assistant for Social Services in November, 2007. In this capacity she is charged with responsibility over the primary social services departments and the Child and Senior Advocates.
Prior to her current assignment, Ms. Taylor-Wooten served as an Assistant to the County Manager responsible for the provision of services administered by the County's health and social services related departments, including the Community Action Agency, Department of Human Services, Juvenile Services Department, Office of Countywide Healthcare Planning, Community Relations Board and the South Florida Workforce Investment Board.
Ms. Taylor-Wooten possesses over 30 years of progressive County government experience, the majority of which has been in the Department of Human Services. She began her career as a Rehabilitative Services Counselor with the Comprehensive Alcohol Program and has also served as a Rehabilitative Services Supervisor, Health Services Administrator, Director of the Child Development Services Division and Chief of the Neighborhood Assistance Bureau.
In 2005, Ms. Taylor-Wooten was selected as a member of the administrative team that implemented the Countywide "Help Us Help You" campaign designed to address the social service needs of residents impacted by Hurricane Wilma. She served as the administrator of the Department of Human Services' first Quality Assurance Unit, Chairperson for the 2004 Annual Black Family Symposium and has been instrumental in the development of a number of departmental policies and procedural manuals. Ms. Taylor-Wooten was also a member of the County staff assigned to the Immigration Emergency Fund Advisory Committee, convened by the late Governor Lawton Chiles.
Ms. Taylor-Wooten holds a Master's Degree in Health Management and a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management from St. Thomas University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. She is a past Board Member for the Florida Children's Forum; the Camillus Health Concern; the past Treasurer for the South Florida Association for Young Children, the local affiliate to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); and the past Second Vice President and Parliamentarian for the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, South Florida Greater Miami Chapter.
