Throughout her 28-year career with Miami-Dade County, Ms. Zito has been focused on implementing efficiencies through the use of technology and business process improvement, in order to better serve the residents of our community. During her tenure as Director of the Government Information Center, she engineered the organization's entry into communications convergence in order to enhance the reach and impact of message and service delivery. This has resulted in various awards and recognitions from national organizations for our County government, including most recently, second place in the "Best of the Web Awards" that is conferred by the Center for Digital Government, a research and advisory institute that focuses on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.
Zito is currently responsible for three major government information access points: miamidade.gov, the County's self-service channel; 311 Answer Center, the phone service channel; and ServiceDirect offices, which offer face-to-face services and are strategically located throughout the County.
With the successful integration of Miami-Dade Television, advertising, marketing, translation and photography services into the Government Information Center, Zito has forged a single countywide strategy designed to improve the impact of messaging and simplify service - regardless of the manner in which residents choose to access their government.
Zito's County career began in 1981, in the information technology field. Since that time, she's held various positions of increasing responsibility, including Chief Information Officer (CIO), where she coordinated and assured IT support for the County's Strategic Plan. Prior to that, she served as a Manager in the County's Communications Department, where she spearheaded the pilot project to establish a unified web portal for the County. This portal is better known today as miamidade.gov, and it receives more than 740,000 visitors a month.
As the originator of the e-Government and Online Services units, she began her organizational approach toward online service design, content and branding. Because of this, she has been able to successfully implement several projects that have transformed the way in which residents and businesses interact with County government online, such as E-payments, new interactive services and government-to-government partnerships with local municipalities.
In May of 2003, she was presented with the "Quiet Storm" award at the annual Women's Power Caucus, a prestigious recognition of women who make an enormous impact on people's lives on a daily basis, almost always out of the public view. In January of 2004, she was selected as one of Computer World's 100 Premier IT Leaders. That same year, she was selected by Government Technology magazine as one of the country's Top 25: Doers, Dreamers and Drivers.
A mother of four, Zito holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration/Management Information Systems from the University of South Florida and a Masters degree in Communications and Leadership from Seton Hall University, as well as a professional certification in Telecommunications from the University of Miami.
