If you are an engineer, architect or contractor, you are invited to participate in an Industry Forum from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on May 19 at Jungle Island to learn about upcoming capital projects and provide input on strategies on how the County can better interface with the building industry. The meeting is free and open to all members of the building trades and professions.
Thanks to Miami-Dade voters, improvement projects are now underway at more than 600 worksites throughout the county as part of the Building Better Communities Bond Program. Here's an update of what has been accomplished over since the program was launched in 2005 and highlights of upcoming projects.
The Allapattah YMCA was demolished to make way for a new building as part of new village type complex that will combine athletic and childcare facilities along with affordable housing for families and the elderly. This project is funded in part by the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program.
A Historic Preservation Fund totaling $10 million will provide matching monies for eligible projects through grants to municipalities, organizations and individual property owners in the County for the purpose of rehabilitating historic sites and structures.

The Building Better Communities Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) has voted in favor of using $50 million previously allocated for renovations of the Orange Bowl towards funding a new baseball stadium.
The Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) re-elected Robin Reiter-Faragalli as Chair and selected Barbara Bisno as Vice-Chair to serve a two year term. Both women have served on the committee since its inception in 2005.
