The Board of County Commission (BCC) approved the next BBC-GOB Bond Sale on March 1, 2011.

Ground Breaking for Recreational Center at Claude Pepper Park

Miami-Dade District Two Commissioner Jean Monestime, along with officials from the City of North Miami and Miami-Dade County Staff attended the ground breaking ceremony for the recreational center at Claude Pepper Park.

The proposed recreational center will be developed on the remaining 15 acres of undeveloped land of the 30 acre Claude Pepper Park.  The Center will have in addition to a youth center and gymnasium, it consists of lighted parking, walkways, picnic areas, signage and landscaping.

The Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond allocation towards this project is $9.2 million.

Splash Pool/Playground Opens at Sgt. Joseph Delancy Park

Miami-Dade County District 9 Commissioner Dennis Moss, Office of Capital Improvements Director George Navarrete, along with Park & Recreation Director Jack Kardys and Parks Department staff attended the dedication and ribbon cutting at Sgt. Joseph Delancy Park at 14450 Boggs Drive, Miami, FL 33176.

The project dedication consists of: New Splash Playground, Pool Renovation & Expansion, Picnic Area and Landscaping. Work was also done to expand the Park Irrigation System. The project was funded with GOB and SNP funds.

 

Hialeah Palm Center Breaks Ground

Groundbreaking ceremony of the Hialeah Palm CenterCommissioner Rebecca Sosa, District 6 along with representatives from Miami-Dade County and the City of Hialeah celebrated recently at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hialeah Palm Center.

The proposed multi-purpose facility is comprised of 75 affordable housing units, space for meeting and community functions for public use, and parking for the facility.  It will also function as an elderly education, meal and daycare center.

The Board of County Commission allocated $5 million from the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond (BBC GOB) Program Project No.249 "Preservation of Affordable Housing Units and Expansion of Home Ownership" and $3.5 million from BBC GOB Program Project No.220 "Acquire or Construct Multi-Purpose Facilities".

Ground Breaking at Oak Grove Park

Oak Grove ParkDistrict 2 Commissioner Jean Monestime along with residents and County staff attended the ground breaking for a new soccer field that was held on April 15, 2011 at Oak Grove Park.

The soccer field will be an addition to the 22-acre park which also contains a five-acre lake, a three-acre hardwood hammock, four tennis courts, and a small recreation center.  Future plans include a domino shelter and additional walkway lighting.

The soccer field will be standard athletic turf, comprised of Bermuda grass, creating a new 195' x 330' regulation-size soccer playing field, equipped with field goals.  The soccer field is slated for completion in July 2011 at a cost of $235,000 and is funded by the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond (BBC-GOB).

CAA Breaks Ground For New Regional Head Start Center

Head Start CenterMiami-Dade County District 2 Commissioner Jean Monestime along with Community Action Agency Director Julie Edwards and other County Officials recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Regional Head Start Center at Arcola Lakes - 770 NW 83rd Street, Miami.

The Regional Multi-purpose Head Start Education and Training Center will provide services to eligible children and families that are currently not being served.

The total project cost is $8.4 million and is funded by the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond.
