Baseball Stadium at Orange Bowl Site Moves Forward
GOB funding has been designated for a portion of the cost to build a stadium for the Marlins at the site of
the Orange Bowl. Citing the need for massive repairs that exceeded available funding for its restoration, the City of Miami announced last year that it would tear down the aging football stadium following the University of Miami's decision to move their team to the Dolphins Stadium.
The $50 million in GOB funding originally allocated for Orange Bowl repairs has been re-allocated to help fund a public-private partnership to build a baseball stadium with the County, the City of Miami and the Marlins organization.
