A Dream Comes True!
Sunrise Community, Inc. celebrated the opening of its newly renovated George L. Spelios Adult Day Training Center on October 29, 2009. The new facility was funded in part by the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond (GOB) Program.
The GOB contributed $400,000 to the cost of renovating the facility located at 11975 SW 140th Terrace. Nestled in a corporate park and surrounded by businesses and residential neighbors, the facility is operated by Sunrise Community, a nonprofit organization that assists people with developmental disabilities to live a full and dignified life.
"The renovation process began in 2008, and we couldn't wait to move in," said Les W. Leech, Jr., President and CEO for the Sunrise Community. "Everyone is just thrilled in their new environment. The floor plan is spacious which provides plenty of room for clients' training activities and office space administrative tasks."
The facility is in a hurricane protected building allowing the center to serve as a shelter for those with intellectual and physical challenges during storm emergencies. Sunrise manages approximately 60 group homes and eight adult day training centers in South Florida.
