Seaport Tunnel to Link Seaport and Interstate System

The Port of Miami received a major boost with the approval of the Biscayne Bay Tunnel project. The state should complete a contract in 2008.GOB revenues would contribute to the construction of a tunnel under Biscayne Bay to provide direct access between the Port of Miami and the Interstate System. In late 2007 the County reached an agreement with the City of Miami and State of Florida on financing of what is considered to be one of the most important investments in South Florida's infrastructure. The Tunnel would help reduce downtown truck traffic and promote growth of the port's cargo industry.  Long on the drawing board, the $ 1 billion project would be funded largely by state dollars coupled with County and City funds.  The GOB would contribute $100 million of the project which is now in the pre-design stage.
