Revision to the Roofing Code, Chapter 34 of the South Florida Building Code (SFBC)


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 
The revised roofing code, chapter 34 of the South Florida Building Code (SFBC), became effective on June 4, 1999.

Significant changes include:

  • The new Appendix F must be included with the roof permit application.

  • Dimensional shingles are limited to 3 ½: 12 slope. (min.)

  • New lightweight concrete will require a fastener pull test.

  • No roof penetrations (stacks or vents) will be allowed in valleys, hips or ridges.

  • There are new height/pressure thresholds in RAS-128. (Formerly PA-128)

  • Table – 1 in RAS –127 has been modified to include pressures for different roof heights. (Formerly PA-127)

  • When replacing roofing the existing wood deck shall comply with the current SFBC Chapter 29 (Wood).

Please remember that there may be additional changes that may impact your Roofing Permit Application.
