Neighborhood Compliance

Miami-Dade County has rules that regulate many items, including zoning standards, graffiti, and environmental nuisances. These laws assist in keeping neighborhoods throughout Miami-Dade County safe and enjoyable for all of their residents.

The Minimum Housing Code is a Miami-Dade County law that requires all houses and apartments to be maintained in a safe and sanitary condition and to contain certain basic equipment. The Neighborhood Regulations Division of the Miami-Dade County Permitting, Environment and Regulatory Affairs is responsible for enforcing the Minimum Housing Code.

Commercial Regulation rules help Miami-Dade County maintain the safety and vitality of its local business and shopping areas. They apply to all business, commercial and industrial property. Enforcement is done on complaint basis.

The Permitting, Environment and Regulatory Affairs Lien Section is responsible for the recovery of fines and fees expended due to the enforcement of the Miami-Dade County Code. The philosophy of the County is to recover enforcement costs from the property owners with violations. The goal of the section is to encourage properties with violations to achieve compliance.
