If you used a contractor with an illegally obtained license, you should:
- Review the list of contractors with illegally obtained licenses.
- If your contractor is not on the list, no further action is required at this time. However, because this is an ongoing investigation, you should check the list weekly for updates.
- If your contractor is on the list
- If you live in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, West Miami or Cutler Bay, you will receive a letter via certified mail from the Building Department within a week providing you with specific instructions on steps that you must take that are specific for your type of permit. Complete and return the enclosed complaint form. This form will help the County take criminal action against the illegally licensed contractor and seek restitution. If you do not receive this letter within a week, please contact the 3-1-1 Answer Center.
- If you live in a municipality other than those mentioned above, call 3-1-1 to open a service request. 3-1-1 will notify the Building Code Compliance Office which will follow up with your municipality. The Building Code Compliance Office will notify the municipal building official requiring that the owner be contacted within one week and provided with the necessary steps to bring the permitted work into compliance.
