Extension to host Rain Barrel Workshop

(Learn the first principle to Florida friendly landscaping)

(MIAMI, May 8, 2012) – This Mother’s Day be kind to Mother Earth and learn how to how to reduce water use through rain water harvesting.

The Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension Division will host a rain barrel workshop at the South Miami Farmers Market on Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  During the Rain Barrel & Water Conservation workshop, presenters will demonstrate how to use barrels to capture rainwater that can be stored for later use. By installing a rain barrel, you'll not only help reduce pollution, but you'll also have a supply of free non-chlorinated soft water for irrigating your landscape. Although the workshops are free, the cost for purchasing a rain barrel is $40, and must be ordered in advance.  To make sure one is reserved for you, be sure to register by Thursday, May 10, 2012.

In addition, participants will learn how to choose plants that require less water for a low maintenance garden and will learn how to choose the right plant for the right place.  Attendees will learn how to select plants that are suitable for their landscape and the first 50 participants to arrive will go home with a new plant for their garden.

To sign up for the workshops, contact Lize Luna at 305.248.3311, ext. 242 or 245.
