Extension to host Creole workshop on Green Industry Best Management Practices

(MIAMI, October 24, 2014) – Are you aware the State of Florida requires a training certificate to commercially apply fertilizers that stemmed from a newly adopted law which became effective January 1, 2014? Although this law does not apply to homeowners, it does affect all other parties who apply fertilizer products for hire. Legislation adoption sets forth restrictive measures and further enhancements for the protection of Florida’s natural resources to ensure ground water does not become contaminated or impaired by the improper use of fertilizer byproducts or their application.

Miami-Dade County’s Extension Service is conducting a workshop in Creole for those who must obtain their certificate thru completion of a Green Industry Best Management Practices Class.

This workshop is designed to provide training to individuals working in lawn, landscape, pest control or municipal ground areas. The best management practices are focused on reducing non-point pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application.

Space is limited therefore advanced registration to attend the workshop is necessary along with a nominal fee of $20.00. For additional information please contact the Extension Office at (305) 248-3322 ext. 225.
